Journey to the Manger Scheduled

"Journey to the Manger" is scheduled to take place at Christ United Methodist Church on Dec. 17 and Dec. 18 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The event is a 30-minute guided tour that includes a live nativity scene.

Refreshments will follow the tour.

Christ United Methodist Church is located at 417 N. Frontage Rd. in Forysth.

Candidates Can Qualify Next Week for Sellier's Seat

Candidates can qualify next week to fill the late Rep. Tony Sellier's seat in the Georgia General Assembly.

Qualifying for the House District 136 seat will take place from 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15 until Friday, Dec. 17 at noon, Georgia's secretary of state announced Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Gov. Sonny Perdue has set a Feb. 15 election to fill Sellier's seat in the Georgia General Assembly.

Sellier, a Fort Valley Republican, died last week after complications from surgery.

Sellier represented House District 136 for the past four years. The district includes Crawford County and parts of Bibb, Houston, Lamar, Monroe, Peach and Upson counties.

There are no primaries for the race; candidates of all parties will run in a single field. If no candidate wins a majority on Feb. 15, a March 15 runoff will be held.

Candidates will qualify in the Elections Division of the Office
of Secretary of State. The qualifying fee is $400.

Breakfast to Address Offender Reentry Services

The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) and the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles are hosting a meeting in support of the Macon Reentry Coalition, according to a news release.

The breakfast is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 16 from 8-10:30 a.m. in Vinzant Hall the at State Offices South at Tift College.

The Macon Reentry Coalition is a collaborative effort, in partnership with the GDC and the Parole Board, to educate and assist offenders who are on probation or parole. The coalition involves law enforcement, faith-based organizations and elected officials from Central Georgia.

The goal is to enhance already-existing risk interventions and serve to help reduce repeat offenders. The group also provides job placement, skills training and counseling to assist offenders after their prison release.

Robins Federal Credit Union is currently collecting donations for Toys for Tots at branches in the following counties - Baldwin, Bibb, Clarke, Houston, Jones, Monroe and Peach.

Unwrapped toys for children ages birth-14 may be dropped off at these branch locations between now and Dec. 15.

Chamber to Host Eggs and Issues

The Forsyth-Monroe Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly "Eggs and Issues with the Chamber and Joe Brannen" Wednesday, Dec. 8 from 7:30 a.m. until 9 a.m. at American Pizza in Forsyth. A hot breakfast will be served.

Joe Brannen is the President and CEO of Georgia Bankers Association (GBA) and represents membership at both state and federal levels, according to the Chamber's website.

The GBA is the trade and professional organization that represents the interests of banks and thrift institutions in the state of Georgia.

Eggs & Issues with the Chamber and Joe Brannen of President/CEO of GBA "Eggs and Issues" is the first Wednesday of every month and is $10 to chamber members and $15 to non-members.

Guests are to RSVP by 4 p.m. on the Monday before the event. "Eggs and Issues" is scheduled for the first Wednesday of every month.

Rose Theater to Debut "Christmas Cheer"

Rose Theatre will host the live show and debut of "Christmas Cheer" on Dec. 9.

According to The Backlot Players’ website, “Christmas Cheer” is a family drama, set in rural Wisconsin in the fall and winter of 1952.

In the play, The Chandler family has endured a move to the country from New York City with hope of better times to come as they restore the old family home.

While working two jobs and struggling to make ends meet, Ed Chandler comes up with an idea to start his own business. Whether the timing will be right and where the money will come from to start the venture are just two of the problems Ed will have to face.

With Christmas coming and with two children’s hopes on the line, what will the family have to endure?

"Christmas Cheer," is debuted by The Backlot Players and written and directed by Forsyth's Alan Ralph. The play is based on events from Ralph's childhood.
