It's Time to Preserve That Summer Bounty

It's Time to Preserve That Summer Bounty

This time of year always reminds me of my grandparents. They had a tradition of planting a garden in the spring, and in the summer the fresh vegetables and fruits would be harvested. My parents continue this tradition. I am spoiled because home grown fresh vegetables and fruits taste wonderful! At least the ones my grandparents grew were, and now my parents’ results are the same.

My grandparents were newlyweds during the Depression. Having plenty of food was very important.

My grandfather spoke of how using the food he grew to barter was the main way they survived through those tough times. They also preserved vegetables and fruits to have them in winter months.

When you treat yourself to a Dairy Queen blizzard this Thursday, you're also treating the Children's Miracle Network.

Thursday marks Miracle Treat Day, a day where at least a dollar from every blizzard will go to Children's Miracle Network, according to a release.

Last year nationwide and in Canada, the fundraiser brought almost $5 million to Children's Miracle Network hospitals.

The Children's Hospital of the Medical Center of Central Georgia is a member of the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
