GBI, police investigating death of 5-year-old girl at Forsyth home

The GBI and Forsyth police are investigating the death of a 5-year-old girl at a home Tuesday.

It happened at 374 Brookwood Drive off of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Forsyth police Chief Keith Corley said someone in the home called 911 around 8:50 a.m. to report an unresponsive child.

Ambulance workers did CPR on the child, but she was later pronounced dead at Monroe County Hospital.

Sheriff issues scam warning

Sheriff Bittick warns Monroe Countians about a scam making its way through Georgia.

He says scammers have found a new way to take victims' money.

A new scam is making its way through Georgia and Sheriff John Cary Bittick is warning all citizens not to fall victim to this most recent scam.

As with most scams, the latest involves the victim turning money over to a stranger. But since most victims have learned the hard way that money shouldn’t be wired or transferred to an unknown bank account or banking institution, scammers have found a new way to take victims’ money.

Crews plan to repair roadways this week along I-75 in Monroe County.

That happens Tuesday-Thursday this week from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. along I-75 North between markers 182-187, according to a release.

On Sunday morning for Easter, a Forsyth church presents a play, "He did it all for me."

This play will kick off at 8 a.m. on the courthouse square in Forsyth with "Jesus" carrying the cross from the square through Forsyth about three miles out of town ending at New Beginning Church of Forsyth, where the play will be presented
