A Monroe County man was tending to his livestock on Saturday when two pit bulls attacked and killed his donkey.

The incident happened shortly after 1 p.m. on Blount Road, according to a Monroe County Sheriff's Office news release.

The donkey's owner told deputies one of the dogs was reddish in color and the other was tan with black and white spots. The dogs bit the donkey around the head and throat.

The man said he shot at the dogs and the dogs ran off of his property towards Highway 42 and Brownlee Road.

The sheriff's office is asking anyone who is familiar with the dogs or their owner to call law enforcement at (478) 994-7043.
