Monroe County searching for escaped inmate | Crime
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says they're looking for an escaped state prison inmate.
The inmate reportedly took off from the city-owned Forsyth Golf Club sometime Wednesday. A Monroe County dispatcher would not say what the inmate was doing at the golf club.
Viewers told 13WMAZ that the search began sometime Wednesday afternoon, as helicopters circled the area near the golf course.
The dispatcher referred questions to department spokeswoman Allison Willis, who could not be reached for comment.
By email, the Georgia Department of Corrections identified the inmate as James Douglas Kelley, who is serving time at the Burruss Correctional Training Center, about two miles from the golf course. He was convicted in Jackson County on charges of burglary, obstructing a law enforcement officer and family violence.
He escaped while on an outside work detail, according to the email.
A Department of Corrections spokeswoman, Lisa Rodriguez-Presley, declined comment and asked 13WMAZ to send her a list of questions.
