Seven arrested in Forsyth gambling, alcohol sales sting

The Forsyth-Monroe County Drug Task Force arrested seven people Sunday for gambling and illegal alcohol sales.

Officers conducted search warrants at 54 Jones St. and 78 Lovers Lane in Forsyth.

According to a news release, numerous people were occupying the residences and the following seven were arrested and charged:

Man Convicted in Forsyth CVS Robbery

A man was convicted for a February CVS robbery in Forsyth.

A Monroe County Superior Court jury found Patrick Barrow, 57, guilty Wednesday, according to Forsyth Police Chief Keith Corley.

Barrow was served a life sentence for armed robbery and another 15 years for possession of a firearm while in the commission of a crime.

This is his sixth armed robbery charge and his fourth conviction: three previous counts were in Bibb, one in Upson, and one in Butts counties, Chief Corley says in a release.

According to the February release, the suspect walked into the CVS on Tift College Drive around 7:45 p.m., displaying a silver revolver and robbing the store at gunpoint.

Monroe Co. Prisoner Runs from Court, Steals Cruiser

A prisoner who was sentenced at the Monroe County courthouse broke out, stole a patrol car and led officers on a chase.

The GBI said the suspect is Jeffrey Keith Sligh, 36, of Jackson.

He is now back in custody, according to a GBI news release.

The GBI said they are investigating use of force because Monroe deputies fired shots during the chase, the news release stated.

No one was injured.

Sligh was being charged at the courthouse on burglary and arson charges. He was found guilty of burglary and sentenced to 20 years in prison, according to the GBI news release.

Deputies were taking Sligh into custody when he ran from the courthouse and drove off in a vehicle.

A short distance from the courthouse, Sligh crashed and stole a Monroe County Sheriff's patrol vehicle, the GBI said.

Deputies eventually caught him on the Hwy. 83 ramp to I-75 north, the news release stated.

Gun Organizations Offer Rewards for Bass Pro Burglary

There are now two rewards totaling $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the people who stole 17 semi-automatic AR-15 rifles.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives Atlanta Division and the National Shooting Sport Foundation (a trade association for the firearms industry) announced both are offering $5,000 rewards.

The ATF and the Bibb County Sheriff's Office are still investigating the theft of 17 AR-15 rifles from the Bass Pro Shops on the night of Sunday, September 29, 2013.

The guns range in price from $600-$1,000 depending on the manufacturer and upgrades.

They are asking for the public's help in recovering the guns and arresting those responsible.

One rifle was recovered in an Atlanta traffic stop overnight Tuesday.
