Former Asst. Principal Sues Monroe County Schools | Education

A former assistant principal has filed a federal lawsuit against Monroe County school officials, claiming racial discrimination.
The lawsuit was filed Oct. 23 in the U.S. District Court in Macon.
Former T.G. Scott assistant principal, Fletcher Johnson, Jr., who is African-American, claims he subject to continuous racial discrimination.
On one occasion, it states that Superintendent Anthony Pack, told Johnson, "as long as I'm the Superintendent in this county you will never be principal... You are a liability to this school district."
This was after Johnson applied to be principal of K.B. Sutton Elementary.
It says Johnson was "placed in fear of both physical and professional harm by Superintendent Pack's hostile and demeaning behavior."
Contacted by 13WMAZ, Pack read a statement that said, "Monroe County Schools is an Equal Opportunity Employer - The Monroe County School System does not discriminate against persons on the basis of age, race, color, national origin, gender, disability, religion, marital status, veteran status, sex, genetic information or political affiliation."
He declined to comment further on the lawsuit.
"As Superintendent of Monroe County Schools, I have not seen the lawsuit. Even If I had seen the documents, I would not be able to comment because it is a legal matter pertaining to personnel issues," he added.
The lawsuit makes several allegations against Richard Bazemore, principal of T.G. Scott Elementary.
For example, Johnson claims that Bazemore sent him a "racially and sexually explicit email" and copied female staff members on the message.
Johnson also alleges that Bazemore made "monkey sounds, monkey jokes" around him and made a "joking reference to a student who kicked Dr. Johnson in his private area."
Johnson, 49, filed complaints with the Monroe County Board of Education and the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
The suit alleges Pack told Johnson that if he went to the board of education again, that "it would be as easy as a contract non-renewal to terminate him."
Johnson, who has 17 years experience as an educator, worked for the board of education for eight years. He said he was fired on April 18.
The suit says Johnson was chosen as Best Assistant Principal of Monroe County in 2008, 2010 and 2013.
A document attached to the lawsuit says the federal EEOC investigated his complaint, but did not find enough evidence to prove that Johnson's rights were violated.
