Winter storm watch for Central Georgia

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for all of central Georgia beginning Tuesday morning until Wednesday afternoon.

A wintry mix is expected for central and southern parts of the state beginning Tuesday afternoon. Rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow are likely Tuesday evening until Wednesday morning.

Pastor raising $1 per mile to build a decent home in Forsyth

Christ United Methodist Church of Forsyth presented Darrell Watson, pastor of First Baptist Church of Forsyth, a check for $150 on Jan. 16 in support of his Ironman fundraiser for Monroe County Habitat for Humanity. Watson is training for the Ironman competition in Woodlands, Texas, on May 17 and is asking groups, individuals, and businesses to pledge $140.60 toward construction of the next Habitat for Humanity home in Monroe County in support of his endeavor.

The Miss Forsythia Pageant is open to all Georgia residents and/or students 0-21 yrs old.

That's set for March 1 at 10 a.m. at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center.

Admission: Adults - $4.00 Students - $2.00 5 and under - Free (Each contestant will receive one free guest ticket for admission)

DNR aims to increase quail population

DNR aims to increase quail population

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources says they hope a partnership with numerous organizations in the state will boost the quail population.

Earlier this evening several groups signed the Georgia Bobwhite Quail Technical Team Memorandum of Agreement.

It's a mouthful, but what it means is that, DNR will provide free help to farmers or land owners that want to tailor their landscape to make it more quail friendly.

  • Our Cotton Pickin' Christmas Tree Farm, Hawkinsville. Check their Facebook page for updates.Pick your own pumpkin from the patch. Also enjoy cider or cocoa on the porch while the kids climb the hay mountain. Open 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
