Monroe County Escapee in Hospital | News
The Monroe County man who fled from police Wednesday is in a Macon hospital. That's according to Monroe County District Attorney Richard Milam.
Jeffrey Keith Sligh, 36, suffered injuries during the wreck, including having teeth knocked out. Sligh's attorney told his family that he is undergoing facial reconstruction surgery at the Medical Center.
His father Tony Sligh has been trying to find out about his son's condition since Thursday morning and was devastated after learning he ran away. Sligh was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years for burglary.
Milam said Sligh is under police supervision, and that once he is released from the hospital, he will most likely go straight to state prison.
"He said that he didn't really want to go to jail for something that he did not commit, and that it would be devastating to him, that it would kill him to go to jail for something like that," said his father.
"We tried him, we convicted him, and he decided to leave. He wasn't gone long," said Milam.
