Holiday Parade Turns Forsyth Into Toon Town

Forsyth-Monroe County Chamber of Commerce out on its holiday parade around the downtown square Thursday.

The Hometown Holiday parade is the only nightime parade in Central Georgia to allow strings of Christmas lights to shine even brighter.

"It gets you into the Christmas spirit and makes you happy," said 11-year-old Makya.

She and her family were among the crown that watched 60 vehicles and performances travel in a horseshoe route from the Broad of Education building to Ingles supermarket.

The theme this year was Holidays in Toon Town. 20 floats ran with the theme in a competition for the best decorated float.

"I think we're gonna do great because we have the live Mario and Luigi, and they're gonna give us that added bonus that we need," said Angela Williams, warden of the Burruss Correctional Training Center.

She said 8 inmates put the Mario Brothers themes float together in one day, because they wanted to be part of the one of the town's biggest events.

"We're a big part of the community the Department of Corrections is here in Forsyth and we felt that we needed to show our support to the community," she said.
