Forsyth Church Celebrates 175 Years | News
A church in Forsyth is celebrating their 175th birthday.
First Baptist Church off West Morse Street started the day with song and prayer and ended with good food and company.
Of the 500 members, about 300 came out to the First Baptist Church in Forsyth to join in on the celebration.
There were guest speakers, a choir of about 95 singers, and good food throughout the day.
Longstanding members of the church say it's a staple in the community.
"It's a loving family of faith, truly," says Laura Newton who has been a member since 1971.
"It's changed and grown, I wouldn't say for good or bad. It's smaller but it's more energized now than it has been at any time in my memory," says J. Ray Grant, a member for 50 years.
Pastor Darrell Watson credits the church's core values -- worship, traditional music, and gospel -- as the key to standing the test of time.
"We believe that we are called by god to love people to jesus and I think this church does that very well," he says.
