Jones, Monroe Counties Voting on SPLOSTs

Early voting is under way in both Jones and Monroe counties, where people will decide whether to continue SPLOSTs for education.

The separate votes in the two counties conclude Tuesday, March 19 and early voting ends Friday, March 15.

Both counties already have a one percent sales tax in place for education, and they expire this year.

According to the ballot question, Monroe County wants to raise up to $32 million over the next five years for various education purposes.

Jones County's sales tax would raise up to $16 million.

Forsythians Invited to ESPLOST Meeting Monday Night

Forsythians are invited to a meeting about ESPLOST Monday evening.

That's scheduled for February 25 at 6 p.m. in Alderman Hall. That's located on the back of the Welcome Center facing West Adams Street.

The special vote early voting starts Monday . The special vote begins March 19.

Nominate A Music Teacher for a GRAMMY Music Educators Award

The Recording Academy announced a new award Sunday on The 55th GRAMMYs Award Show.

Students can nominate teachers for the "GRAMMY's Music Educators Award."

Fill out this form, telling the Recording Academy who it is and where to reach them.

If you're a school administrator nominating a music educator, use this form.

The deadline is April 15, 2013. The form says that the teacher will then have to fill out an application after your nomination. Be sure to give teachers plenty of time before the April 15 deadline.

Monroe County Pre-K Enrollment Starts in March

Monroe County Pre-K enrollment amps up Thursday, March 14.

That's from 8-5 in the Monroe County Board of Education Auditorium at 25 Brooklyn Avenue in Forsyth.

Eligible children will be four years of age on or before September 1.

Student placement is on a first come, first-served basis with completed enrollment.

To enroll, you'll need these things:

1. Proof of residency:

  • Utility bill with parent/guardian's name, street address and current date within 60 days. Tax and cell phone bills don't count.
  • Lease or rental agreement with the parent/guardian's name, address, date within 60 days. Will not be accepted without a utility bill.

2. Proof of Age:

  • Your child's birth certificate

3. Your child's social security card (required by first day of school)

4. Your child's immunization record (Georgia Form 3231)
