Nightly Double Lane Closure on I-75

WHEN:    9 p.m. until 5 a.m., nightly, Monday, April 4 through Thursday, April 7, weather permitting

WHERE:  I-75 southbound between mile markers 188 and 188 (near Exit 187; SR 83, Cabiniss Road)

WHAT:   The Georgia DOT has scheduled a double lane closure on I-75 southbound near Exit 187. Crews will be performing road maintenance.

 

Fire Department Welcomes New Addition

After many months of work from the Volunteers at Culloden Volunteer Fire Dept, Monroe County Station 5 can boast it has a new Rescue 5 on line and ready to serve the public.

The City of Culloden purchased the vehicle, the volunteers converted it, built racks, shelving, installed lights and got it ready to put on line and Monroe Co EMS install the radio and purchased the paint for the prisoners to paint it.

The first day Rescue 5 was on one medical call and one wreck. Though this effort, mileage will be save on Engine 5 and fuel costs will be lowered, as well as providing better EMS coverage for the south end of Monroe Co.

The old Rescue 5 will be utilized as Brush 5, fighting field and woods fires in their district.

 

Saturday I-75 Interstate Lane Closure

From 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday, February 5, a lane closure is scheduled for I-75 southbound.

 On I-75 southbound between mile markers 189 and 188 (near Exit 188; SR 42, North Lee Street), the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has scheduled a single lane closure on I-75 southbound near Exit 188.

Crews will be making repairs to concrete slabs, weather permitting. That's according to a GDOT news release.

Icy Road Conditions in Monroe County

As of 4:30 a.m. the Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued an icy road advisory for Monroe County on I-75 and State Route 42.

Motorists are urged to slow down and leave at least a ten-car length distance between vehicles and the DOT trucks clearing the road ways.

DOT Anticipates Holiday Travel Delays

The Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) anticipates more travelers than usual with Christmas Day falling on a Saturday this year.

High congestion areas include I-75, I-16, and I-475 in Bibb County, the DOT release says.

“We anticipate heavy traffic throughout the metro Atlanta area beginning Thursday around noon” said Georgia DOT Commissioner Vance C. Smith, Jr. “Mall and retail center traffic will be particularly congested. Additionally, many travelers will be returning home over the weekend.”

Motorists should expect congestion near malls and retail centers throughout the week leading up to Christmas Day.

The DOT will suspend construction-related lane closures on all interstates and state routes from noon Thursday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 27 at 5 a.m.

I-75 Southbound Double Lane Closure

Nightly, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9 to Friday, Nov. 12., there will be a double lane closure between mile markers 184 and 182 on I-75 southbound.

Crews will continue emergency bridge repairs on the Simmons Road/Bunn Road Bridge over I-75 Southbound.

According to Department of Transportation Communications Officer Kimberly Larson, the Simmons Road/CR 15 Bridge over I-75 in Monroe County was damaged when a vehicle collided with the guardrails and columns in August. Georgia Department of Transportation Bridge Inspectors were dispatched to the scene for inspection and deemed the bridge unsafe for travel and immediately shut down the bridge.
