'Ask DDS Day' Counted as Success

The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) recently hosted its annual “Ask DDS Day” on June 1, 2011 at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, Georgia.

That's according to a DDS news release.

Over 100 guests from various driver safety programs attended this year’s event.

School owners, Instructors, Third-party examiners, Chauffeurs, and Ignition Interlock providers received information on a number of strategic initiatives, including an overview of DDS Web Services, the Reinstatement Integration and Modernization project, and the Online Certificate Reporting Application.

A legislative update highlighting new laws enacted during the 2011 legislative session was also provided.

GDOT Authorizes New Construction

The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded more than $74 million in new construction contracts across the state.

That's according to a GDOT news release.

That means passing lanes on State Route 18 in Lamar and Monroe counties by C.W. Matthews for $6.9 million was approved.

Other projects include:

$21.4 million for the long-awaited construction of northbound ramps at the intersection of State Route 400 and Interstate Highway 85 on Atlanta’s north side.

Work on the  ramps will begin this summer and is scheduled to conclude by January, 2013.

Archer Western Contractors, LTD, of Atlanta will perform the construction, which is being funded by Georgia 400 toll revenues.  Once in operation, the new ramps will offer southbound Georgia 400 motorists direct access to northbound I-85 and southbound I-85 motorists similar northbound Georgia 400 access.
