Central Georgia celebrates MLK Day

Several events are planned in Central Georgia to celebrate the life and legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

Marches are being held in Macon, Warner Robins and Dublin.

  • Dublin-Laurens County's parade starts at noon Saturday and begins on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and ends on West Jackson Street in downtown Dublin.
  • Warner Robins' annual MLK Birthday March will be at 8 a.m. Monday and beginning at Agape Outreach Ministries, 295 N. Davis Drive.
  • Macon's MLK Day March is taking place at 11 a.m. Monday at the following recreation centers: Booker T. Washington, 391 Monroe St.; Frank Jackson Center, 2227 Mercer University Drive; Memorial Gym, 2465 Second St.; Rosa Jackson Center, 1121 Maynard St.
  • Unity-N-Community is hosting an event called Education & Uniting the Dream from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at Rosa Park Square in Macon.
  • There will be an MLK Living the Dream Worship Service at at 5 p.m. Sunday at New Pleasant Grove Mission Baptist Church, 795 Maynard St., Macon. The speaker is Minister Ann Spencer.
  • The annual MLK Day Church Celebration Service at Steward Chapel AME, 887 Forsyth St., Macon, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday. The speaker is the Rev. Edward Dawson.
