Gingrich To Speak at Lamar County Church Sunday

Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich will speak Sunday night at "God and Country" at a Lamar County church.

The event begins at 6 p.m. Sunday at Rock Springs Church, according to Abbey Shiflett, the assistant to senior pastor Benny Tate. The church is located at 219 Rock Springs Road, just off exit 201 on Interstate 75.

She said the public is invited.

Shiflett says Gingrich has appeared before at Rock Springs for fundraisers benefiting the church. She said he will speak "as a historian" at the "God and Country" event.

Gingrich will campaign here in his home state, leading up to the March 6 "Super Tuesday" primaries that include Georgia.

A Gingrich campaign spokeswoman could not be reached for further comment. The Rock Springs event is not yet listed on Gingrich's campaign website.

Voters will decide who they'll want to face President Barack Obama in the November general election.

Bibb County Elections Supervisor Elaine Carr said it seems that more and more people are taking advantage of voting early.

"The voters are beginning to gradually really tune in to advance voting and they're really picking up on it," said Carr. "The 2008 general election, 29,000 of our voters voted in here in this office."

"It will be February 25; we'll be open 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. for any voters that can't get in here during the week and have trouble on election day going," said Carr.
